The week began with good shooting and defense at Garfield en route to a 44-38 win behind 19 points from Brooke Van Lenten. The next night, minus two starters the girls struggled to put anything together on offense at Rutherford. Thursday’s rematch with Hawthorne started with some poor shooting from close range, allowing the Bears to build a 17 point lead early in the 2nd half. Led by Erin Vander Plaat and 9 points from Addie Peretti in the 3rd quarter, the Eagles stormed all the way back to take a 2 point lead with seconds left in the game. The defense forced an apparent Hawthorne turnover on the final play, only to watch the loose ball roll from a pile of players to the feet of their best shooter who drained a three at the buzzer. Unfazed by the tough loss, the Eagles look forward to the challenges ahead next week at Manchester Tuesday and at home vs Pompton on Thursday and Veritas Christian on Saturday!
