What’s your name and title at EC?
My name is Beth Wright and I am the Middle School Art Teacher.
Tell us about yourself
I attended Ramapo College where I studied Theater and Visual Arts. After graduation, I took my interests for theater and art to the next level, studying to become a Scenic Artist for Broadway & TV! But my goals quickly changed when I discovered my love of clay, and I started taking more classes in ceramic art. I have been pursuing ceramics as my main focus in art-making for the last 10 years, as well as pursuing my love of teaching all mediums of art to both children and adults.
Tell us the story about how God brought you to work at EC
I was contacted by the principal of the Middle School to ask if I was interested in the part-time art teacher opening at the MS. I prayed on this for awhile, because at the time, another opportunity was on the table, which was also something related to art. But over time, God very clearly spoke to me and showed me that the teaching job at EC was the right choice for me right now. As soon as I made the decision to pursue this position, I felt very much at peace. Since working at EC, God has been confirming along the way that I made the right decision and that I heard his voice correctly.
What sets EC apart? Why Eastern Christian School?
EC is definitely set apart as a Christian teaching & learning community, something I have never been a part of before in terms of a school environment. I feel very connected to the strong community of amazing teachers, and even though we are all teaching different subjects, there is a common set of beliefs and goals as followers of Christ – to love the students as individual, amazing creations of our amazing Creator, and to be an example of Christ’s love to them first and foremost. I love that I am able to speak about Christ in the classroom, and even have students create art projects about our amazing God! It is important to me to be able to express God’s love to others through my daily life and work, and I am so glad I have this opportunity as a teacher at EC.
